Tools I love and recommend for a home pottery studio.
-
Laser Level (Rechargeable)
I highly recommend charging the battery fully ahead of a longer throwing day, but it does also have an indicator of battery life so you’re not caught off-guard.

-
Large Throwing Mirror
I’ve used a smaller mirror for a long time, but recently upgraded to this large one and I love it!
-
Plastic Storage Bins
I use these as damp boxes, without any plaster or with small plaster bats for longer storage. They seal very well. These hold the mugs I make perfectly with some room to space without plaster in the bottom.

-
Plastic Shower Caps Pack
I use 1 or 2 shower caps on leather hard work to cover rims so that they don’t dry too quickly while the base of the pieces are drying (which would cause S cracks in the base). This is an inexpensive pack of 100 and the size easily fits over a 9” rim with room - so maybe up to a 10” wide rim. I also use 2 of these at a time to cover a bat if I want to store some handles Ive prepped, then I wrap the whole thing tightly with plastic over it. This way the bat doesn’t let moisture out.
-
Bucket Dolly for 5 Gallon Buckets
Essential for moving full or partially full buckets around a studio. You can also easily stack 2, 2-gallon buckets on these.

-
Adhesive Vinyl for Stecil Work
A great, easy-to-use product. I use it with a Cameo 5 print/cut machine.
-
Transfer Tape
For use with the vinyl when your design isn’t connected to itself, for example, for block lettering versus script.

-
Bat Mate
Critical for use under bats to prevent wobble & wiggle!
-
Penguin Wax
This wax goes on really nicely - add red food coloring to it if you like. I don’t do that but many do and it burns off in firings.

-
1" Foam Brushes
I swear by these for applying wax to pot bottoms. See this in action here.
-
Lightweight Adjustable Stool
What I like about this is that it’s inexpensive, easy to adjust, and made for getting splashed. I’ve used it for over a year and truly love it. Works best with a seat cover pad linked next.
-
Padded Seat Cover for Stool
This comes in more colors, and fits over the hard top of the adjustable stool I have linked. They come in a set of 2, so I have one at the studio where I teach to just rest on top of the stools there as it’s a touch small for the grey metal/MDF stool seats, but rests atop them just fine and helps provide that nice pad for me.
-
Pour Spouts for Oil Bottles
Available in silver, yellow gold, and rose gold.
-
Spout Fitters
If your bottle neck opening is a bit too wide, try these, they tend to work great to add width to the spouts.
